FPCS Music Director, Ben D’Annibale, will be joined by soprano, Sophia Santiago, for a program of Romantic German Lieder (Art Songs) by Franz Schubert and Hugo Wolf. Please join for an afternoon of fantastic music, in addition to discussions of the song texts and how the music works in conjunction with the text to achieving a deeper meaning.

Benjamin D’Annibale is a pianist and harpsichordist based in Philadelphia. A graduate of the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg in Germany (M.M. Harpsichord) and Temple University (B.M. Piano Performance), he has had extensive training with a diversity of keyboard professors, and a special focus on baroque music and instruments. He also received a year of training at the Hochschule für Kirchenmusik Rottenburg, where he studied conducting and organ. He has given concerts in various corners of the USA, as well as areas of Germany and France. In addition to teaching and performing in the Philadelphia area, Benjamin is currently the collaborative pianist for the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus; pianist for the University Choirs at Drexel University; and director of music at First Presbyterian Church in Flourtown, PA. A recent participant of the American Bach Soloists Academy in San Francisco, he also was recently a fellow at the Bach Institute at Emmanuel Music in Boston. This summer, he will assistant conduct and perform harpsichord for the American premiere of Nicola Porpora’s Polifemo with Opera Neo in San Diego.

Sophia Santiago has performed as a soloist and chorister across the New York metropolitan area. She studied voice with Faith Esham at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, performing Mozart opera roles Pamina from Die Zauberflöte and Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro. Sophia later studied for her master’s degree in Vocal Performance at Manhattan School of Music under voice teacher Shirley Close where she specialized in early and contemporary music, working with both the Contemporary Opera Ensemble and the Baroque Aria Ensemble. Recently, Sophia won first place at the Spazio e Musica Fatima Terzo competition and performed a European debut of a solo concert series titled “Amor sacro e amor profano” in Vicenza and Modena, Italy with early music ensemble I Musicalli Affetti, led by Fabio Missagia. She was a New York District winner in the Met Laffont competition of 2022 and performed with the American Bach Soloists Academy in the Summer of 2023. Upcoming engagements include performing as a soloist with the Philadelphia Ballet and a world premier of Layale Chalker’s opera “Ruinous Gods” with Spoleto Festival USA 2024 in Charleston, SC.
